Throughout the 10-week program, participants conduct full-time research under mentorship of faculty advisors and graduate students while engaging in professional development, career exploration, graduate school preparation, and research communication activities
WEEK 1
WEEK 1
Move-in, orientation, mentor meetings, campus resources, and research project onboarding.
Initial project planning, background reading, and hands-on training to prepare participants for full-time research
WEEK 2-4
WEEK 2-4
Weekly student research presentations beginning in Week 2, where participants share progress updates from both Weeks 1 and 2, discuss research challenges and findings. Identify and review relevant literature and prior work in their research area,
findings, and receive feedback from faculty mentors and peers
Wednesday seminars/professional development workshops such as laboratory safety and research ethics training, mentor-mentee development, and scholarly research skills.
Outdoor activties like Historical Canoe Tour and networking opportunities with participants from other summer research programs
WEEK 5-7
WEEK 5-7
Continued full-time research on individual projects, including data collection, analysis, experimentation, model development, and regular meetings with faculty and graduate student mentors to discuss their preliminary results.
Professional development workshops focused on mental wellbeing and stress management, effective resume writing, interviewing skills, career preparation, and time management strategies
Community engagement activities, including demonstrations of research projects to local high school students during summer camp programs, providing participants with opportunities to communicate scientific concepts, inspire future STEM students, and share the impact of their research.

WEEK 8-9
Preparation and review of individual research posters, technical documentation, and presentation materials to effectively communicate research outcomes.
Graduate school preparation, scholarships and fellowships opportunities, research communication.
Industry tour to companies like Nucor Tubular Products, UPS, Amazon, The Slugger Factory and more.
WEEK 10
WEEK 10
Preparation and submission of final technical reports. Complete exit surveys
Participation in the SROP Culminating Research Poster Reception and Symposium, where students present their research findings to faculty, researchers, industry professionals, and fellow students
The program concludes with recognition of REU participants for their successful completion of the program and their research accomplishments.
